Leather or Vegan Sandals with some customization options, mostly where you submit a foot tracing for an optimal footbed:
Chala * – Offers 3 ways to get a custom fit with the Configurator tool at the top. Save 5% with code 723FFF74. |
Deliberate Life Designs – Adam travels around with his family in a converted bus and makes custom barefoot shoes based on foot tracings, including for kids down to pre-school age. Code OWBSHOES * saves you 10%. |
EarthingMocasins – They do a lot, including Sun Sandals custom fit for sizes 34-47 EU via their Etsy shop. |
Gladsoles – Foot tracing is the only way to get these super-minimalist sandals. |
Laboo Leather * – Can work off of foot tracings and you must request customizations to the footbed to get thinner, heel-less shoes. |
Luks Shoes / Botyluks /Barefoot Luks – Styles are pre-made, but you can reach out to them to make customizations such as toebox shape, which make the items non-returnable. |
Nallu – Offers both pre-made and footbed-tracing custom options. EU only. |
Running Pads – Extremely minimalist leather sandals made either standard or from your foot tracing out of one piece of leather. EU only. |
Softstar Shoes * – Softstar customizations vary based on model and include extra width sometimes, or changes such as longer straps (like the Solstice model). I love many of their shoes, but find the Solstice sandal narrow and not ideally-shaped in the toebox. I’ve personally tried it so can offer you sizing help, and am including it to be complete here, but I recommend you look at a different Softstar model, such as the Primal Merry Jane as a more foot-friendly option. |
Tarasoles – EU-only paracord sandals with a variety of options. Grounding sandals available. |
Toetem Sandals * – Pre-made and custom pathways. Rugged look. Save 10% with OWBSHOES. * |
Unshoes * – Offers both pre-made and customizable sandal options (outdoor and around town) |
Way of Konea – Show fashion, made in Hawaii. |
Xero Shoes *- This is customization-by-user. The DIY kit allows you to make any size/width you need. |
Zeazoo – Zeazoo can do a lot! They love to customize and give you options such as wider footbeds and even extra strapping. Contact them to see what’s available for your particular shoe choice (they have women’s, men’s, and kid’s sandals). My code OWBSHOES * saves you 5% here, or 10% on the site 100barefootshoes that stocks pre-made Zeazoo. |
Greek Sandals Companies – This is a bit of a unique experience where the companies are making mainstream shoes, but they understand, to an extent, barefoot shoes. Here you MUST request heel removals, and it’s best to also ask for a more flexible sole, if available. Sometimes you can also ask for adjustments to the shape or sizing of the footbed, but not always.
A really important note on these: make sure you pick a secure design with adequate strapping. Since these companies are used to making rigid shoes, not all designs translate well to heel-free and more flexible soles.
You should also check the footbed shape here, as they may be too narrow for your feet, depending on your particular feet. Plenty of people can wear even the narrow ones, but not all of us. 😅
All of these are on Etsy and can ship worldwide. Find a design you like, and contact the shop to see what your options are. Most will show you women’s feet, but many have men’s designs as well, and at least Astir has a kid’s model.
Astir Sandals * – the kids’ model is already without a heel, as are a few of the adult models (Ankle strap, and those marked as barefoot) |
Calpas Footwear * – willing to make extra customizations such as footbed width |
Crupon * – really cute designs, more narrow than other options and not able to make wide widths |
GreekSandalsPenelope * – modern designs + gladiator-lite looks |
GrecianSandals * – I’d call these ‘casual modern’ designs |
Kionas Sandals * – modern, lots of metallics, some gladiator-lite |
Savopoulos * – more modern-looking Greek designs |
SpartaSandals * – has at least 2 options that are already barefoot, but most will require customization. Heavy on Gladiator options. |
