Shamma Sandals Super Browns Mini Review

I bought these sandals in one of Shamma’s periodic Yard Sales, where they discount returns and other pairs. Looked new when I received them, and off I went.

Even though I have the blog now, this one will have to forever remain a quick review, because I’ve sold them on, and bought a different model. Actually a custom model. But more about that coming soon!

Technical specs:

Pros:

  • They feel like slippers, basically, with the thin sole. Very comfortable to walk around in.
  • They are very easy to adjust, with 3 different points. You can move the buckle connection to your desired location on the top of your foot, adjust the heel velcro for positioning, and adjust the instep velcro for a secure fit.
  • Available power straps can give you a super-secure fit on top of that.
  • The leather footbed is very comfortable.
  • They are soooooo wide! And that width is very foot-shaped and flattering, with the width concentrated at the forefoot.
  • Highly flexible with no limits on your movements.
  • Great ground feel.

Cons:

  • I don’t love the velcro. That’s not anti-Shamma but just straight up anti-velcro.
  • They are not for high-volume feet. If you look at the main image you can see that the instep strap is showing a lot of the connecting velcro, highlighting the discrepancy.
  • The very little tread depth makes these entirely an around-town sandal. This is kinda what I wear pretty much everything for, but (for the same reason I have an SUV with 4wd) I feel more comfortable with more tread for the times you need it.

Personal thoughts and tips:

Well, I’ve already sold them, entirely due to the volume issue. Reaching out to Shamma I found out they do custom options, such as marrying footbeds and strap systems in the configuration you want. So that’s what’s coming.

Get the power strap if needed, but I think that would be more valuable on a more rugged model that you’d put through the paces on actual trails, and such. It’s hard to see this slipper-like model on much of anything but a city street. They have plenty of other models, like Mountain Goats and Old Goats, that are better suited to nature and could necessitate the extra strapping.
